Trump Supporter Killed at Mar-a-Lago After Armed Confrontation

A 21-year-old North Carolina man who was shot dead while allegedly attempting to enter Mar-a-Lago early Sunday morning was described by those who knew him as a devoted supporter of President Donald Trump who had become increasingly preoccupied with the release of government documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Authorities say Austin Tucker Martin, from Moore County, was armed with a shotgun and carrying a gas canister when he entered the north gate area of the Florida estate at around 1:30 a.m. The president and first lady were in Washington, D.C. at the time of the incident.

According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Martin was confronted by two Secret Service agents and a sheriff’s deputy inside the perimeter. Officers instructed him to drop what he was holding.

Martin reportedly lowered the gas canister but then “raised the shotgun to a shooting position.”

“At that point in time, the deputy and the two Secret Service agents fired their weapons,” Bradshaw said.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members had reported him missing over the weekend and were said to be shocked by the news.

Deep Concern Over Epstein Files

Friends and colleagues say Martin had recently become intensely focused on the release of millions of Justice Department documents connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He believed President Trump was a “strong leader,” according to colleagues, but had grown worried about the possibility of a government cover-up and powerful figures “getting away with it.”

In a text message sent to a co-worker on February 15, Martin wrote: “I don’t know if you read up on the Epstein Files, but evil is real and unmistakable.

“The best people like you and I can do is use what little influence we have. Tell other people about what you hear about the Epstein files and what the government is doing about it. Raise awareness.”

Those who worked with him described him as open about his Christian faith and political views.

Family in Shock

Relatives expressed disbelief following the shooting.

“He’s a good kid,” his cousin, Braeden Fields, said. “I wouldn’t believe he would do something like this. It’s mind-blowing.”

“He wouldn’t even hurt an ant,” Fields added. “He doesn’t even know how to use a gun.”

Fields described the family as “avid Trump supporters” and said Martin was generally quiet and reserved.

Others who knew him said he had been frustrated about economic pressures facing young people and had spoken about the difficulty of getting ahead without working multiple jobs. He had reportedly attempted to organize a union at his workplace to advocate for higher wages.

Background and Investigation

Martin graduated from Union Pines High School in 2023 and had launched a small business creating hand-drawn golf course illustrations under the name Fresh Sky Illustrations.

The company’s website states: “Fresh Sky Illustrations is an artwork company that mainly focuses on bringing to life the hopeful feeling of being on a golf course by illustrating golf course scenes and providing framed copies of handmade works in various golf course gift shops while handling personal commissions on the side.”

A golf professional who met Martin years earlier said he had allowed him to photograph parts of a course for his artwork.

“They’re pretty good pieces,” he said.

Investigators believe Martin purchased the shotgun while traveling south toward Florida. A silver Volkswagen believed to belong to him was located near the estate. Inside, authorities found what appeared to be packaging for the firearm.

The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident.

Ongoing Security Threats

The shooting comes amid a series of security threats directed at Trump and his properties in recent years.

In July 2024, Thomas Matthew Crooks grazed Trump with a bullet during a rally in Pennsylvania before being killed.

Later that year, Ryan Wesley Routh was accused of attempting to target Trump near Mar-a-Lago. He was sentenced to life in federal prison earlier this month and has since filed an appeal.

Authorities have not indicated whether Martin had any connection to prior threats.

The investigation remains ongoing.
