A senior Iranian security official has issued a pointed warning directed at U.S. President Donald Trump following escalating tensions over the security of global oil shipping routes in the Middle East.

The message came after Trump warned that the United States would carry out powerful military strikes against Iran if the country attempted to block oil shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit corridors.

In response, Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, released a statement rejecting what he described as threats from Washington and cautioning the U.S. president about the consequences of further escalation.

The exchange marks the latest escalation in rhetoric during a rapidly expanding regional conflict that has intensified following coordinated military strikes against Iranian targets earlier in the conflict.

Larijani has emerged as one of the most prominent figures overseeing Iran’s response to the attacks. He is widely regarded as a key architect of the country’s military and strategic response as the conflict has spread across parts of the Middle East.

The situation dramatically worsened after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed during the opening phase of the military campaign late last month. The event triggered immediate retaliation from Iranian forces and significantly increased tensions between Iran and its adversaries.

Following Khamenei’s death, Iranian officials vowed to hold U.S. leadership accountable, arguing that Washington played a central role in the operation that led to the assassination.

The United States has long accused Iran of plotting attacks against Trump, claims that Iranian authorities have repeatedly denied.

American officials have previously said intelligence agencies uncovered several alleged assassination plots linked to individuals connected to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. In recent years, law enforcement and intelligence investigations have examined multiple incidents involving individuals accused of attempting to organise attacks on prominent American political figures.

Security concerns surrounding potential threats have led to heightened protection measures around Trump. In previous incidents, authorities took precautionary steps to alter travel plans and security arrangements when credible threats were assessed.

Trump has also responded publicly to the alleged threats in the past, stating that any attempt to assassinate him would result in overwhelming retaliation against Iran.

The latest exchange of warnings highlights the growing tension between the two countries as the broader conflict in the Middle East continues to expand.

Analysts say the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most strategically important waterways in the world, carrying a large share of global oil exports. Any disruption to shipping in the region could have significant consequences for international energy markets and global economic stability.

As the conflict continues, governments around the world are closely monitoring developments amid concerns that further escalation could draw additional countries into the crisis.
