Two people have been arrested after a shooting in Papakura that left a man injured and prompted an investigation by police in South Auckland.

Officers were patrolling the Clevedon Road area on Saturday morning when they heard what they believed were gunshots. Shortly afterwards, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency services transported the injured man to hospital where he was treated for moderate injuries. Police later confirmed he has since been discharged.

Following the incident, authorities arrested two individuals and recovered a firearm believed to be connected to the shooting.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor of the Counties Manukau Criminal Investigation Branch said a 23-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman have both been charged with serious offences.

“The male has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Papakura District Court on 26 March and the female will reappear on 16 March.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we ask that anyone with information which may assist our investigation contact us via 105, quoting file number 260228/8498.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Taylor said early information suggests the victim and the two accused individuals were known to each other. Investigators do not believe the incident poses any ongoing threat to the wider public.

Authorities are continuing to gather information about what led to the shooting.
